Information and Communication Technology (ICT) continues to shrink the world. As major players are facing increasing difficulties in coping with the global demand, Sri Lanka is emerging as a world's ICT destination of choice. The island is steadily transforming itself into the most preferred ICT hub in Asia thanks to the availability of the most precious resource in the world - talent. It has also become the 4th largest export earner of the country.

ICT services are the 4th largest export earner of the country. The Sri Lankan ICT sector serves a number of Industry verticals with over 300 companies at present. These include Communication, Apparel and Textiles, Banking Financial Services & Insurance, Healthcare, Manufacturing, Media, Retailing, Transportation, Travel and Leisure and many more.

 What is SLASSCOM? 
  •  SLASSCOM (Sri Lankas Association for Software and Services Companies) is the national chamber for the IT industry in Sri Lanka. They act as the catalyst of growth for the Sri Lankan IT and BPM industry by facilitating trade and business, propagation of education and employment, encouraging research and innovation, and by supporting the creation of a forward thinking and progressive national policy framework. Member organisations of SLASSCOM account for approximately 90% of the IT/BPM industry export revenue.
 


 
What is Future Career Bridge(FCB)?  
  • The Future Careers Bridge is a program which is conducting by the SLASSCOM to assist the people who are interested in IT but lacks visibility and know how to enter this rapidly evolving industry.  
  • Future careers bridge aims to enable the opportunity to realize peoples potential in the ICT industry.
 
What to do with FCB? 
  •  If you are an IT lover and willing to enter to the industry, the best option in Sri Lanka is FCB. There are some challenges for you. There are two categories in those challenges which are the fundamentals and advance challenges. 
  • Once you are done with the  basic challenges, you can proceed to the advance challenges.The advance challenges will require more learning and development effort but will provide you the necessary skills to get a career opportunity in the tech industry.



 
 No entry qualification required. Anyone interested to learn IT can take challenges and develop their skills.
 
There is no registration fee or any other payment required to take part in BRIDGE. Top performers will get selected by companies in the IT industry.
 
 During your training period, the company will pay an internship allowance.  Once you complete all the challenges, SLASSCOM will provide you with a certification. You need to contact SLASSCOM and request for the certification. This will be valuable for your career. The challenges can also assist you learn the skills required by the industry.

  The speech on how to overcome challenges and stop comparing yourself to others by Dean Furness was really a different experience for me. There he discussed his earlier life, which he had spent before the unfortunate situation happened in December 2011. According to his speech, a five-foot-tall, 700 pound bale of hay had fallen on him while he was going to feed their horses. And he described his feelings at that moment and how his life had changed due to this accident by letting him sit in a wheel chair forever.
